The Latest In Hockey Trade Rumors
Trading players is part of the game of hockey and on a regular basis we’ll hear rumors about possible trades. Once can only wait to see which rumors turn into reality. So what are the latest in hockey trade rumors?
Vesa Toskala the Sharks backup goalie has career expectations that would some day make him a number one NHL goalie. It’s obvious he won’t be able to meat that goal with the Sharks and that’s okay because the Sharks just signed a 4 year extension with Evgeni Nabokov so it appears Toskala will come up on the trading block. Perhaps his dream can come true sooner rather than later.
The Hawks are rumbling to have some new faces when they play the Colorado Avalanche on March the 9th. There appear to be some significant trades that are going to occur just before that game.
Rumor has it that Jassen Cullimore, Jim Dowd, Tyler Arnason, and Mark Bell are all about to find themselves on the trade block. It’s said that they are just a few of the players from the Blackhawk’s that are going to be on the trade block.
Rumor also has it that the Thrashers want to see Savard join them long term. There have been several new contracts drawn up in the past few weeks and one star is ready to sign up with the Thrashers for another season. If not Savard will become an unrestricted free agent this summer and he might be looking for a big raise. Although the Thrashers say they don’t negotiate before a seasons over they do say they want Savard as part of their long term plans.
Another rumor floating through the hockey circles is that the Panthers are trying to get center Olli Jokinen to sign a new contract. Jokinen turned down a $16 million 4 year deal and it’s believed that’s it is highly unlikely that a deal will be reached before his contract expires. Rumor has it if they can’t make a deal then they’ll opt to trade their captain.
The scuttle butt says that the Habs are looking to get themselves a new number 2 centers which could mean Mike Ribeiro is on his way out. Both rookies Tomas Plekanec and Radek Bonk are able to replace Ribeiro which means he could find himself on the trading block shortly.
If rumors are true it appears that Dave Taylor the general manager of the Kings is hoping to continue to pursue his trade goals as soon as the Olympics are over. It’s said the Kings are looking to improve their blue line and have been talking to St Louis about Eric Weinrich and Dean McAmmond. All we can do is wait and see where that leads.
The rumor mills telling us that the Blackhawks are looking to make quite a few trades yet before the March 9th deadline. They want to shave a few dollars off their payroll and plan to accomplish this by putting defensemen Todd Simpson and Jassen Cullimore, as well as centers Curtis Brown and Jim Dowd on the trade block. Meanwhile they are hoping to pick up Matthew Barnaby and Tyler Arnason.
Hockey trade rumors come and go throughout the year. Some are more titillating than others. And things can get really exciting just before the trading block closes. Guess we’ll just have to wait to see which rumors come true.
