10 College Hockey Teams Reviewed
This is where it all begins. Okay perhaps a little younger than here but college hockey definitely plays an important role in the “game.” And it seems these teams are ready to show you what they’ve got to offer this season. Here are 15 college hockey teams reviewed.
1. North Dakota
North Dakota is quickly becoming the envy of many colleges. Heck with 4 of the top 36 NHL picks this year alone coming from North Dakota draft picks. Those are pretty impressive numbers. That includes the new Ottawa defenseman Brian Lee, and Jonathan Toews who will be eligible for the draft next year. The Fighting Indigenous People high impact players would include Toews, Oshie, Lee, and Chorney.
2. Michigan State
This is a group of rockies with skill. Justin Abdelkader scored 52 points for the Spartans last year and Tim Kennedy scored 61. Jeff Lerg was the Spartans top goaltender in fact he took the MVP circuit award.
3. Minnesota
Does it seem every time you turn around you’re hearing about the Gophers. Well there’s a reason! This team is full of NHL draft picks which include Blake Wheeler, Ryan Stoa, and this years top goaltender Jeff Frazee. And now you get to hear about their next up and coming star Phil Kessel who hasn’t even hit the ice yet.
4. Michigan
This season sees the Wolverines with a 10 newcomers. Jack Johnson, a defensemen for the Wolverines, was 3rd overall pick in this years NHL draft while Andrew Cogliano was named the fastest skater in the draft. Billy Sauer comes to the Wolverines as the new goaltender this year replacing Al Montoya. Now there’s a hard role to follow but rumor has it Billy’s up for the challenge.
5. Boston College
There’s some interesting things going on here. The Eagles are well balanced this season with Brock Bradford and Nathan Gerbe destined to battle for this years East Rookie of the year award. Should be an interesting season with such strong impact players like Motherwall, Kunes, Gerbe, Filangieri, and Bradford.
6. Colorado College
The Tigers might be in for a bit of a struggle this season loosing so many of their top players to graduation and the professional scene. However Chad Rau is ready to make the headlines for the Tigers and O’Connell is ready to help make that happen.
7. Minnesota Duluth
The Bulldog’s got a whole new group of freshman raring to go so this season could be filled with surprises. Matt Niskanen was a first round pick for Dallas in the NHL draft and Micahel Gergen is a sleeper – just wait and see! This might not be a team that’s always in the limelight but they aren’t about to be outdone.
8. New Hampshire
The Wildcats had 10 league products on last years roster and have been recognized as the best source of college talented players. This is a team with plenty of talent so watch out.
9. Miami
The RedHawks are being recognized for the their top notch hockey program and Jeff Zatkoff their goaltender certainly deserves his fair share of the recognition. Watch out for their high impact players Martinez, Zatkoff, and Eichenlaub.
10. Yale
Yale is about to do it in a big way this season. With Mike Karwoski coming over from the New York team and returning Blair Yaworski combined with Meckler – wow! It’s going to be a banner season!
