CCM Hockey Equipment

CCM is certainly a name recognized in sports for its quality sports gear at affordable prices. And CCM hockey equipment is certainly no different. CCM has been a proud manufacturer of hockey gear for a century!

When and where hockey began continues to be debated. Some say England while others say Holland. Some say Halifax while others believe it was Kingston and others say Montreal. That’ debate will most certainly go on for years.

When it comes to where and when CCM began there is no debate. Back in September of 1988 a company called Canada Cycle & Motor Company Limited began operations In Weston Ontario.

One hundred years ago bicycles where the product of choice and the market was very competitive especially in the United States. As those American manufactures began to look North to Canada for a less competitive market they were simply too slow. Five major bike manufactures opened their doors. But to stay competitive these five companies joined together to form Canada Cycle & Motor Company Limited or CCM.

But by 1905 the bicycle market was on the down slide even in Canada. And CCM looked to other alternatives to remain viable. During this time hockey was a sport that was gaining rapid attention and growing quickly so CCM decided this was the market they wanted to pursue.

What a smart move! 100 years later they are still producing quality hockey products and in fact they are the largest hockey manufacturer in the world.

So how did they enter the hockey market? Why with the CCM Automobile Skate a custom skate with a leather boot and reinforced toe and heel. This was the result of hockey players like Joe Hall complaining their current skates weren’t doing the job.

It didn’t take long for CCM to take over the hockey skate market. In fact in 30 years more than 90% of all players were wearing CCM skates. And from 1939 to 1969 all of the NHL scoring champions were wearing the famous CCM Tackaberry hockey boot with a Prolite blade.

Today CCM remains a leader in the industry and the largest manufacturer in the world. Their technological advancements are outstanding and they’ve even introduced features like Vakutacks, Hell Wedge, and Instapump Skates. Innovation truly is their middle name!

The Tackaberry boot was the brainchild of a shoemaker in Brandon Manitoba back in 1905. His name was George Tackaberry and thus the appropriate name for the skate. George worked with local hockey player Joe Hall to build a better skate than what the guys were using. Little did George know he was going to make history. In fact it remains the most recognized skate even today.

To celebrate the 100the anniversary of the CCM Tacks skate is now being sold with a 30 day money back guarantee. CCM is so confident that this skate remains a quality product they have no qualms with offering such a warranty.

The 2005 Pro Tacks skates have the classic styling combined with the new support and protection technologies creating the ultimate skates with amazing comfort. CCM’s trademark Pro Armour™ uses the EPP technology that’s used in helmets. CCM’s SkateLock™ lace support system for the top 3 eyelets works with a new two-piece support strap for optimal support. There is an all-new Tack line of skates which includes the 992 Super Tacks, the 892 Super Tacks, the 692 Tacks and 492 Tacks

Over the years CCM has had a few official spokesmen for their products. Back in 1936 King Clancy became the first spokesman. Since then we’ve seen hockey legends such as Marcel Dionne, Paul Henderson, and Mike Bossy. And of course there has also been Iron man Mark Recchi and NHL star Martin Brodeur.

And just like the stars that promote the CCM products, CCM itself remains a star in the hockey industry. CCM has been a proud manufacturer of CCM hockey gear for a century!
